Add To Your WishlistJ) Mezzotint Intaglio Printmaking Workshop Sunday 1st December 10am-4pm

  • Description

Mezzotint is a beautiful printmaking technique in the intaglio family. Mezzotint achieves tonality by roughening a copper plate with thousands of little dots made by a metal tool with small teeth, called a "rocker". In printing, the tiny pits in the plate retain the ink when the face of the plate is wiped clean. This technique can achieve a high level of quality and rich velvety tones in the print.

This workshop is suitable for any level from complete beginner to printmakers wishing to improve their techniques or try a new skill.

During your workshop you'll learn how to prepare a copper plate for mezzotint, using  various tools and techniques you'll create your very own mezzotint plate to print. You'll ink your plate and print it using our No.3 XL Gunning Press. This is an ideal starting point for anyone wanting to become a member of our Printmaking Studio.

Included in this workshop are all materials necessary, demonstrations and expert guidance.

What to bring - Ideas, images, sketches. We also have a range of books and images available for inspiration.

What to wear - Old clothes as printmaking can be messy, aprons are provided. No long jewellery and long hair must be tied back.

Classes start at 10am-4pm with a break for lunch. There are plenty of good quality eateries along the high street.

We look forward to welcoming you!
